I have had a camera in my hands since age ten, thanks to the magnificent discovery of a long-forgotten Minolta in the cupboard under the stairs. It's been a love affair ever since.
As a photographer, I am a 'generalist'. I photograph a little of everything: portraits, weddings, events, commercial, news and editorial, street photography, fine-art, the neighborhood stray cat... I learned early on that I enjoy too many different styles and subjects, enjoy experimenting with different mediums too much to "settle down" and limit myself solely to one genre. I've found that has given my work a wonderful versatility and breadth.
Just as the subjects I photograph are wide-ranging, so too is my visual style. While I tend towards a blend of photojournalistic and editorial (my background is in photojournalism), It is my subject matter that drives me, and it is my subject matter which dictates the style and perspective I adopt in my photographs. I aim to to convey personality, circumstance, and a sense of place not only in my framing, but through my use of color, light, and creative direction. Getting to know my clients--their personality, interests, and perspective--I view as a large component of my photographic work.
Outside of photography I'm also an artist. I dabble in mixed-media and traditional art, as well as fiction, creative non-fiction, and poetry. My art photography and other works are occasionally displayed around Davis, and a portfolio of my landscape and fine-art photography can be found on my personal website.
